Hon'ble Mr. Justice Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel

Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi

Born on 13th March, 1960.  Passed S.S.C. with 68% marks in the year 1975, B.Sc. with 68% from M.G..Science College, Ahmedabad in the year 1979 and M.Sc. with Organic Chemistry from University School of Science in the year 1981. He did his LL.B. degree in the year 1984 with first class and LL.M. with 1st Rank in the First class in  the year  1986 from L.A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad.

He got two gold medals, one of Principal M.S. Pandit Gold Medal and another from Bombay Hindu Law Research and Reform Association. He was a National Scholar  in the year 1983-84 and 1984-85.He was Chess Champion of his college from the year 1975 to 1981. 

He enrolled as an Advocate on 28th July, 1984 and practiced at the High Court of Gujarat. He practiced in Civil, Criminal and Constitutional  matters as well as Excise and Custom matters on behalf of Union of India at the High Court of Gujarat. He was appointed  as a Special Counsel of the State of Gujarat in other High Courts.

He was a panel advocate of various  Institutions/Authorities like Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC), Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority(AUDA), Ahmedabad District Panchayat, Provident Fund Commissioner, B.S.N.L., AICTE, New Delhi etc. in the High Court of Gujarat. He was also a counsel on behalf of State of Maharashtra for the writ petitions at the High Court of Gujarat.
He served as part-time lecturer in Sir L.A.Shah Law College, Ahmedabad for 9 years, both at LL.B. and LL.M.Level.

He was appointed as Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor at the High Court of Gujarat in the year 1991.He was appointed as in-Charge Government Pleader of the State of Gujarat of India in May-June,1999.

He was appointed as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel by Union of India, in the year 1999 and as Senior Central Government Standing Counsel by Central Government for High Court of Gujarat on 5th July, 2001.

He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat on 7th March,2004 and took oath as permanent Judge of High Court of Gujarat on 25th January,2006

On transfer, he took oath as Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi. on 3rd Febuary,2009.

His Lordship has been appointed as Executive Chairman of Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority from August, 2012.

Appointed as Hon'ble The Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jharkhand from 04th August 2013 to 15th November 2013.

Appointed as Hon'ble The Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jharkhand from 13th of August 2014 to 31st of October 2014.

His Lordship was appointed as a Chairman of Search Committee in the month of June & July, 2013 forappointment of Vice Chancellors of:

(1) Kolhan University (2) Nilamber Pitamber University
(3) Vinoba Bhave University (4) Siddhu Kanhu Murmu University
(5) Vinoba Bhave University for Pro Vice Chancellor.

His Lordship has been nominated as a Member of General Body of National Judicial Academy, Bhopal (M.P.) on 31st December, 2015 by Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India for three years.

His Lordship has been nominated as a Member of Central Authority {NALSA) vide Notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Law & Justice, Department of Legal Affairs, New Delhi, dated 4th February, 2016.

His Lordship has been nominated as one of the Members of the "Committee for sensitization of Family Court Matters" by Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India from 11th September, 2017.

His Lordship has been renominated as Ex-officio Member of Central Authority {NALSA) vide Notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Law & Justice, Department of Legal Affairs, New Delhi, dated 5th April, 2018.

Appointed as Hon'ble The Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jharkhand from 10th of June 2017 to 10th August, 2018.

His Lordship was nominated by Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India to represent India in the Training Programme for High Court Justices from SAARC countries, organized by National Judicial Academy, Bhopal on 13th to 16th February, 2016 at Bhopal (India) vide letter dated 12th January, 2016/Ref. NJA/Dir/SE-5/2016.

His Lordship was nominated by Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India to participate in the “International Business of Judging” Course, organized by the International Committee of the Judicial College on 3rd and 4th March, 2016 at Highgate House in Northamptonshire (U.K.) vide letter dated 17th February, 2016 / Supreme Court of India, New Delhi.

His Lordship was nominated to participate in “2018 World Congress on Justice for Children”, held on 28th, 29th and 30th May, 2018 at the UNESCO House in Paris, France vide communication dated London, 21 March, 2018.

His Lordship has been nominated as one of the delegates, representing India for “Learning Exchange Programme”, aiming the effective implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, organized by UNICEF from 13th to 17th May, 2019 at Bucharest, Romania, vide letter dated April 24, 2019/Supreme Court of India.

Appointed as Hon'ble The Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jharkhand from 24th of May 2019 to 6th June, 2019.
